Jareth arrived at New Moon Farm in 2014 when his owners decided they no longer wanted goats. When we saw this striking fellow step off the trailer, we knew he was someone special! Jareth is a fainting goat, which means he has a neurological condition that causes his muscles to stiffen when he is startled. This can be very stressful for him, as running is a dehorned goat’s only defense.

Because he was bred for his long coat and fainting behavior, Jareth has health issues as is common with in-breeding. He has deformed front legs, which cause his feet to grow in an unusual shape requiring diligent care. He also has allergies and chronic skin issues that need constant, careful management. Because of all of these concerns, we decided to make Jareth part of the sanctuary herd to guarantee a good quality of life for this unique boy.
